Benefits

Skin ďż˝ useful for boils, warts, acne and other seborrhoea conditions. Circulatory ďż˝ tonifies blood and improves circulation, reduces pressure on varicose veins, lowers high blood pressure and slows external bleeding including nosebleeding. Nervous ďż˝ refreshes and stimulates the mind, allowing clarity of thought. Digestive ďż˝ dyspepsia/indigestion. Respiratory ďż˝ protects against infections like colds and flu and lowers temperature. Immune ďż˝ stimulates immune system to produce protective white blood cells.

Origins

Lemon trees are now cultivated all over the world in warm countries. They are native to Asia and India and also grown wild in Mediterranean countries such as Spain and Portugal. A fresh, zingy bright yellow fruit where the fresh peel (zest) is used to extract the essential oil. The oil of all citrus fruits are extracted by the application of pressure. The fruitsďż˝ pulp and pith are removed and the peel is squeezed to release its oil. It used to be done by hand but now, due to the enormous demand for essential oils, machines are used.

Blends

A blend for a diffuser for a lovely clean and fresh smell 2 drops of Lemon 2 drops of Rosemary 2 drops of Lavender For use in a cold-air diffuser which requires a small amount of water added and 4-6 drops of essential oils

Tradition

Lemon juice is of great use in cleaning. A halved lemon dipped in salt or baking powder is used to brighten copper cookware. It is also a great deodorizer to use around the kitchen. The oil of lemon peel is used as wood cleaner and polish where its solvent property is used to dissolve old wax, fingerprints and grime. Lemon oil and orange oil are also used as a nontoxic insecticide treatment. The lemon tree was brought to Europe by the Crusaders in the Middle Ages and the fruit has a good content of vitamins A, B and C, and an ounce a day was given to sailors in the Royal Navy to alleviate scurvy and other vitamin deficiencies.

Safety

Lemon oil is phototoxic so do not use for at least 24 hours before going into the sun or going on a sun bed It may irritate sensitive skins so should be used in low concentration
